When offensive, defensive, maneuver, and utilize actions are honed, they can become part of your skill set as standard abilities. After rolling a success or better on the same described action 3 non-consecutive times, that action can become a standard ability.
Once added to your skill set, an ability adds +1 to a related attribute roll when used on a standard action. For example, repairing a garment 3 non-consecutive times will allow you add ‘Patchwork +1’ to your skill set. The GM can then allow you to add this stat boost to physiology or cognitive rolls when attempting to repair clothes. Progression points can increase an ability boost to +2 max.
A skill set can contain standard and special offensive, defensive, maneuver, and utilize abilities in any combination with a maximum of 3 per set. If your character has a journal, notebook, or some means of permanently recording information, you can have multiple skill sets ready to recall. Only one skill set can be active at a time and can be swapped during Idle Time.
At the GM's discretion, some abilities may be limited, and can only be used once per turn, round, situation, instance, hour, day, etc. Some abilities can only be used during Idle Time. The number of abilities in an active skill set can be increased with progression points to a maximum of 6.
